From the Pastor’s desk

Father’s Day is about relationships, the deep relationships that are formed with the fathers in our life. Today is a celebration, but also a day where you can focus on the father in your life. We think of our earthly fathers, how they are always in our life to support us, to give council and sometimes rebuke us to bring us on the right path. On this day, we also think of our fathers if they are no longer with us, we remember them, we think about them and we thank the Lord that we were so privileged to have a father in our lives.

A child, who is truly an obedient child, is respecting his or her father and such children have confidence in their Father. In childlike faith they went to their father’s in the knowledge that they will give them the best they can. In our early fathers’ love we also see our Heavenly Father’s love.

Therefore, Jesus commanded us to address God as Our Father, because Christ wants to kindle in us the childlike awe and trust that God through Christ has become our Father.

In Rom. 8:16 we read: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” And in verse 15: “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.”

God wants to be our Father. He does not want to be like a King who lives somewhere far beyond, who sits on a throne and we have to wait to see what He has in store for us. No, He wants to be our Father and we can be His children through Jesus Christ.

Honour your earthly fathers today but also your Heavenly Father! He is the Creator of heaven and earth, and nothing is impossible for Him. He saved us from eternal death and the fact that He is in heaven strengthen our childlike trust more, for He is the Almighty Father.

Blessed Father’s Day!
